Sydney, August 10. The Detached Squadron, accompanied by H.M.S. Wolverine, the flagship of the Australian Station, left Port Jackson this afternoon. Several thousand spectators assembled in the neighborhood of Farm Cove to view the departure of the Royal Princes, and greeted them with enthusiastic cheers. The sight was a most interesting one. The destination of the squadron has been altered, Admiral Clan william having received instructions to make Brisbane his next port of call, instead of proceeding to the Fiji Islands direct from Sydney. August 11.
A case of supposed small-pox was reported to-day from Surrey Hills, where several cases occurred in June; but ihe disease in its present stage is not sufficiently developed to enable the doctors to give a decided opinion as to its nature.
A shocking accident occurred on the tramway last night, causing the death of the Hon. George Oakes, a member of the Legislative Council.
The Pacific Mail steamship City of Sydney sailed this morning for San Francisco, via Auckland. • Melbourne, August 11. ■ The Rev. Charles Strong, of Scots’ church, has tendered his resignation, and insists upon its acceptance.
