Under the distinguished patronage of his Majesty the King of Italy, at Rome, according to communicatioii received from the Consul-General for Italy, at Melbourne, upon instructions from the .Minister for Foreign Affairs, dated 14th March, 1&78. We are informed thajt dealers id med.icne often try to sell the bucalyptuS oil found in £he trade instead of bur Eucalyptus Extract. So far as thb committing of imposition against the public in sUch a case is concerned, the consequences would not be serious 5 but as the qualities of both of the products are in many casbs directly posed to one another, we consider it onr duty to direct th'e public attention to the following fabts - The eucalyptus oil is recorded to bb of value as a medicament in cases of rheumatism df Secondary nature, and manifests ,a drawing, blistering effect upon the skim Any blistering brought on, by the application of a medicament must increase inflammation, and it is therefore evident that in cases of wounds, colds; bronchitis, croup, sprains; &c., the curative power of ohr extract ou the named diseases being unquestionably prdved by former publications! in this paper; an application of thd oil instead of diir extract must impair the diseased. The truth of bur assertion is founded upon the fact that the oil is a resiuouS product, equivalent to common turpentine, its market value being about three shillings one pound weight. Our extract consists of the evaporating particles of the gum leaves; soothing and healiiig in its effects, its price being tweuty-fonr shillings for one pound weight; Onr extract, the genuine article; is only made up in one halfounce and one ounce vials; vials bearing ori the labels our trade mark and signature. SANDER.aud SONS, Sold Manufacturers of thef'Eucalyptus Extract. Sandhurst, November; 1878. DUNCAN M‘LEAN; Wholesale Agent for New Zealand:
Thd Extract of the Eucalyptus Globulus, manufactured solely by Messrs Sander arid Sons, Sandhurst, recommends itself by the following declaration and testimonials Epitome of declaration made before Moritz Cohn, J.P.j on the 17th October* 1877, at Sandhurst :—“Three medical gentlemen had attended the son of Mr Raabe, of Ironbarkj for nine weeks, and declared that amputation of the leg injured by an axO was absolutely necessary. At this junction Mr Raabe called on Messrs Sander and Sons, procuring some of their Extract of the Eucalyptus Globulus, and, by the applfc cation of the same he had the satisfaction of seeing his son within a fortnight out of all danger* and he has now quite recovered.” Brief Extracts from the Bendigo Evening News:— Mr Gieschen, residing near Sydenham Gardens, had a very severe cold in November, could scarcely breathe, and could get no relief. Cured after three applications of the extract. The same gentleman suffered, eight years from rupture, and all medical skill proved ineffectual in giving ijelief. Cured after taking extract internally for six months. A man having his arm bruised severely at a crushing machine, in Long Gully, applied the extract, and the accident did not even necessitate as much as an interruption in his attendance at work. Mrs Weppner, in Colbinabbiu (Runnymede) informed the manufacturers that the extract applied twice restored health to her daughter, eleven years of age, who had been rushed and trampled upon by a cow. In November, Mrs Reeves, from the Rifleman’s Arms, Back Creek, brought information of a' cure of delirium caused by sunstroke, which took place in the family of Mr Ryan, butcher, of Back Creek. The wife of Mr Fickel suffered in the bend of the knee from a swelling which had formed a lump of considerable size, disabling her from attending to any work. She removed the swelling completely by a continued application of the extract. The Donald Times, of Ist December, 1877, states:—Last week the eldest boy of Mr Morgan awoke in the night crying with earache. The extract was applied, and the little fellow was cured and asleep in ten minutes. DUNCAN M‘LEAN, Wholesale Agent for New Zealand.
