Wellington, July 17. Kichii’d Ball has been committed for trial for the robbery of £l7 from Wm. Hope. At the inchest on the body of Harry Wester, taken Out of the harbor on Saturday night, a verdict was returned of “ Accidental death.” July 17. A Chinaman was arrested last night for smuggling ashore cigars from the steamer Bowen. 475 cigars were found on his person. Wyndham, July 17, ’ The ketch Eliza M‘Phee, Captain Campbell, bound from Dunedin to Invercargill, dragged her anchors is Waikawa harbor on Friday night, at 10 o’clock, and went ashore on the beach. No lives were lost. The cook, a Geiman, was washed into the breakers, and had a very narrow escape; the captain and crew saved his life in the boat at great risk. The vessel is said to be the property of the captain, and is insured. The cargo consists of iron and lead, so there is little hope of its being saved. The captain and crew are doing their utmost to secure the wreckage coming ashore. Timaru, July 17.
A farmer named Sams was brought into town last night in an almost hopeless condition, having fallen off a dray, the wheels of which passed over his loins, crushing him badly. Saras is one of the oldest and most respected residents in the district.
