Some tremendous scoring was made in a one-day cricket match at Alveston, on April 15th, between, eleven of James Thorne Village and eleven of Thornbury. The former went in first, and were got out for 42 runs. The latter then commenced their innings, but at the close of the day’s play had lost only three wickets for the enormous number of 674 runs. The score-sheet was as follows :—Thornbury—E. M. Grace, c Hall, b Eyles 228 ; J. H. Hunt, b King, 56 ; S. Day, b Hall, 3 ; W. G. Grace, not out, 196 ; J. Cranston, not out, 174 ; extras, 17. Total for three wickets, 674. G. H. Grace, another young member of the celebrated family, did not bat in this match.
