INDEPENDENT ORDER OF ODDFELLOWS
In accordance with previous arrangements, about thirty officers .and members of the Loyal Hokitika and Waimea Lodges of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of OdaTetlows'^islted' 1 the" Loyal Albert Lodge, at its regular,-uleeting, in the Oddfellows' Hall, last Holiday evenings The members of the-Loyat-Alb.ert Lodge mitstered in strong force to receive the visitors, the lodge presenting a very pleasing appearance, theti being about Seventy officers and m&nhgrs of the order present, including 'the visitors. The business having being got through ahA the lodgo closed-, about fifty ot thl brethren adjourned .to Gilbert Stewart's Hotel where an excellent repast had been provided by the worthy host, and which was done ample justice to by the 1 company present; • : -. Among those present were P:P.G:M: Spyer (who occupied the tihair), P>G. Pearson (the vice,-chair) r Pro. < tit. ftk, Webster, Pro. D.G.M. Saddle;, Prp„ C.& Peake, P.P.G.M;, Lyons, KG. Turner, of the Waimea Lodge j N. Qt\ Oboke, Hdku tika Lodge ; G.M. DbVeY <G;M\' Grdviile) Secretaries William^and Heinz ; -t <■■•>•> i The usual loyal and patriotic toasts were given and heartily ..responded to, .after which, ..,,■:.,■ I The Chairman proposexl thd toast df fkt "District Officers," and spoke of the great interest they took in the {welfare of the lodges comprising the district. Prov. G.M. Wobster responded, and said he had derived great pleasure from being present at the Loyal Albert' Lodge" that evening, and seeing, the satisfactory manner in which business wa& conducted;! He could only say.ihat he and Jus',col J leagues took the. greatest' interest in,, that lodge, and would dq, he was sure,' all thev| could to promote its welfare. '' '" ft Prov. D.G.M. Sandle proposed " w cess to the Loyal Albert. Lodge." He -wad very pleased to see: the members ''muster! up so well that evening, and also,-at- th« good harmony existing bet wee# * s£3 i'tw,o lodges, which Was, no doubt encouraged and promoted by meetings like };h'e presen V and he hoped the? whole "bl "th& ! IbflfeW would be visited during his term of office. Prov. P.G.M. Spyer. responded.-in'f/U one time the Loyal Albert. Lodge appeared; in a very sickly but'he was' ■ happy to say that the influx of population into the district, consequent on the breaking out of the Kuinara gojldfields Jhad re- ; newed it, arid now it took its'place among the largest and best lodges in the district. ; P.G. M'Kenzie proposed •" Health and prosperity to the '•vtstting~-t>Sicers and j brothers," and said <that" \ it was very [gratifying to see.so of the Loyal Hokitika and Waimea lodges present that evening, who ha&"e6nW a long dis--tance for the purpose of spaying a friendly . visit to their brethren at Kumara, and he .hoped the good feeling existing /would be : fostered by more frequent similar meetings, ■• ' m ... ,;.„. The company broke up at the usual hour.
