GAMING AND LOTTERIES BILL.
This Bill, introduced, in the Legislative Council, provides for the punishment by a fine of £IOO or six months’ imprisonment of any person keeping a gaming table, as well as the forfeiture of all money found in his establishment,
and every person found in such a house without: lawful excuse is to be liable to a fine of £5. Betting houses are rendered illegal and the proprietors subject to a fine ot £SO or three months’ imprisonment. Totalisators are only to be used upon the sanction being obtained of the Colonial Secretary, who is to grant it on the recommendation of a recognised Bacing Club. Lotteries of any kind, except genuine art unions, are prohibited, and the proprietors thereof rendered liable to a fine not exceeding £2OO or imprisonment up to a term not exceeding six mouths. Anyone found in a gaming house who shall give a false name or address may be fined £SO or imprisoned for a month.
