London, July 5. The Homeward Suez mails, via Brindisi, which left Melbourne, on May 24tb, were delivered heie to-day. July 6. In the House of Commons last night, during the consideration of the Irish Land Bill in Committee, the Right Hon. W. E. Foster, Chief Secretary for Ireland, proposed as an amendment, to add to one of the clauses that Government should be authorised to lend one half of the arrears of Irish rents for the years 1878 and 1879, in cases where the tenants are £3O under the amount of their agreements with landlords. The proposal was debated at some length, but its further discussion was adjourned to to-day’s sitting. Athens, July 5. In consequence of the intelligence received that the Turkish troops have reoccupied Arta, a large force of Greek troops is being despatched to the district. The latter have already crossed the frontier, and are rapidly advancing towards their destination.
PRESIDENT GARFIELD. Washington, July 6. This morning’s bulletin reports that General Garfield is progressing favorably towards recovery.
Melbourne, July 6. The resignations of Mr Berry aad his colleagues have been accepted by the Governor, who has summoned Sir Bryan O’Loughlin to undertake the formation of a new Ministry. Sir Bryan has accepted the task. Albany, July 6. The P. and 0. Company’s Venetia arrived at King George’s Sound this morning, with the inward Suez mail, dated Loudon, June 3.
