FATAL PRIZE FIGHT.
A Sydney telegram in the Avgus of Monday, June 20th, says:-" A disgraceful exhibition of brutality, with fatal results, took place at an early hour on Saturday morning, when a prize fight came off on the Bunnerong road, at the back of the Rand wick racecourse, between William Henry Booth, a wool-washer, aged twentythree, and Denis Kelleher, a tinsmith, aged twenty-five. The contestants were surrounded by 100 spectators. Senior-" Sergeant Lawler, with several constables arrived some time after the fight had commenced, and as the alarm was given the combatants separated, and the spectators ran in different directions. Kelleher also ran a short distance, and then fell. He died in a few minutes afterwards. It appears that the men had fought several rounds, in which neither was seriously punished; but in the eighth round Booth struck Kelleher a violent blow under sie heart, which caused his death. The police managed to secure Booth aud also a man named Bill Johnstone, a power-fiilly-built half-caste;i who acted as Booth's second. Fivetpjlher men, who occupied a buggy, were ? also appro? hended." We have since' learnt that at the inquest the jury returned a verdict of " Murder" against Booth, and also against Johnstone for aiding and abetting him. ..
