The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. SATURDAY, JULY 2, 1881.

We are compelled to hold over the Conclusion of our report of the proceedings of the Borough Council meeting'and several items of local intelligence till our next issue.

Upon inquiry at the Post-office to-day we learned that the Christchurch coach, with the inward San Francisco mails did not leave the Bealey to-day. Doubtless this would be owing to the very heavy rain which fell during last night. It is probable all the rivers inland are in a state of high flood. We are pleased to announce that the Rev. E. A. Scott is recovering from his severe illness, and is now daily gaining strength, so that we hope to see him about in a few days. The Rev. J. T. Kemptliorne has kindly consented to conduct the service at Holy Trinity Church tomorrow evening. Captain Edwin telegraphed to the Har-bor-master yesterday at 11.30 a.m. : " Watch barometer, and look for a heavy gale between north-east and north and west. The glass will show a further fall of four-tenths, and the sea will be heavy after eight hours. Appearances should now be bad." At a later hour in the afternoon Captain Allardyce received the following telegram from the same source : "Indications of flood after 12 hours." Messrs Wade and Spence's auction sale which was to have taken place to-day was postponed in consequence of the inclemency of the weather. Mr Weston has been successful in getting his name placed on the Mining Committee. Every person purchasing any mining interest should make the most careful inquiries previous to completing the transaction. .A recent decision given in the Warden's Court, Stafford, is to the effect that a month's abaudonment of any mining privilege vitiates the title for ever, although it may have passed into other hands, and work resumed and earned oh continuously. Red, white and blue pool, as instituted at Mr Rugg's, is becoming more popular as it is more frequently played. By a Melbourne telegram we learn that three young girls recently made a journey in a tilted cart from Gunning to Adelong and back, a distance of about two hundred miles, camping out at night in true gipsy fashion.
