THE STATE SCHOOL.

[to tUe editor.] Sir—l see by your issue of to-day that the Chairman of the School Committee is going to give an explanation why the school children were, sent home; but is going to take time and counsel as to what explanation he shall give. Sir, for the life of me I cannot divine what explanation it wants. The fact is palpable enough ; the children Were ruthlessly turned out of school because they Could not pay their sixpence. If our local Chairman will explain how our local school has got into such an unsatisfactory condition since the late head teacher sent in his resignation, he will Confer a great boon on the parents of the children, Why, it was just a short time ago that the master wanted to raise the requisites 50 per cent., and I am not sure that he is not charging more than he ought to do for sonle of them now, NotwithstaUding the assurance our worthy (jhairman gave us at the late distribution of priz°s that the school was in a highly srtisfdctory state, I dan assure you that it is far from giving satisfaction, and there are loud complaints and murmurings constantly going on. Some parents who can afford to pay tschodl fees have taken their childreh away and sent them to the Catholic School* which I consider is far from satisfactory; Apologising for occupying so niuch of your valuable space—l remain, yours tally, One of ffle Diss.vriSFiEiJ.
