The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. FRIDAY, JUNE 3, 1881.

In addition to the letter which appears in Another column and those published yesterday we have several complaints from parents of the unjust treatment their children are receiving at the hands of some of the teachers at the State School. The following extraordinary document was to-day handed to one of the school children for delivery to her pai-ents who are in respectable and affluent circumstances, fot presentation for the signature of the Chairman of the Local School Committee : Kumara Public School, I hereby certify that the parents of are in indigent circumstances, and are unable to pay the prescribed school fees. (Signed) Chairman School Committee. By the Certificate we infer that if the parents of the children attending the State School are poor and in destitute Circumstances, by getting ther certificate signed by the Chairman of the School Committee* requisites for their children Would be supplied free of cost. But that a certificate should be forwarded to the patents of children who are well-to-do, wO regard as a very gross insult. Of

course, some parents may have refused to pay believing that they are not required to do so by the Act. We trust the Chairman’s promised explanation to-mor-row will satisfactorily clear the teachers of those complaints. Mr G. G. Fitzgerald addresses the electors at Westbrook this evening.

He therefore moved that the Chairman be requested to write to the Government, asking that a Warden’s and R.M. At the same meeting some ‘discussion took place as td the payment of the Licensing Bench Commissioners, and Cr. Marshall moved that leave be granted to rescind the resolution formerly passed, notifying the Commissioners that they would be paid no longer for their services. The Council not being unanimous, the motion could not be put.
