DR. SIMMS’ LECTURES.
Dr; Simms has been giving a series df lectures in Christchurch and Dunedin. Some of his observations are very original and trite. In his third lecture, givdii at Ditnedin, the Doctor remarked—
He who df-ags his feet will drag and drawl in everything. An orderly Walk prognosticates a systematic person. I never kndW a man with a slow gait who ever acquired ffiuch property. Slow steppers usually work for others, because they have too little energy to set themselves going; Those who are in a very great hurry never put things in order, from the reason that it takes time to arrange materials, and they find no spare time for systematising. Many other interesting things were said of walking, carrying the hands, address, bowing. “ Laughter starts,” the Doctor said, “on a vowel sound, a, e, i, o, u, w, y, being key notes. The mother of Goethe says, ‘He who laughs well can commit no deadly sin,’ He who never even smiles or laughs is morose and bad-hearted. Charles I. and Blackhawk were cited as those who did not laugh. A heartfelt laugh does one good, stirring the whole secretory powers of the body to healthy action.”
Several of the audience walked in the hall for Dr. Simms to describe the characteristics of their gait, which was a very amusing part of the evening’s entertainment,
