THE STATE SCHOOL.

[To the editor.] Sir—l am given to understand that their was a regular field day at the State School to-day, the head-master, after bullyragging the children for the last week, day after day, to make them pay their sixpence, ordered about a score of the defaulters to stand out on the floor, so as to expose the poverty of their poor parents to the full gaze of the whole school. Now, what puzzles me is, why did the master not order them all out, and not only a few of the poverty-struck-looking ones, while the well-dressed and comfortable-looking favorites were allowed to sit still. Now, sir, poverty is no crime, and a greater insult could not have been offered by Mr Wilson to the parents of those children whom he ordered to stand out. I for one shall resent it.—Yours truly, One of the Poverty stricken; June 1, 1881. [fo the editor,] Si r—Can you inform me whether the children who were turned out of school to-day were turned out by order of the School Committee, or did the teachers turn them out on their own responsibility I —l am, Ac., Cantankerous. Dillman’s Town, June 1, 1881.

[to the editor.] Pm—l you can inform me howmuch money was obtained at the late entertainment h>v prizes for the State School children, and how much was expended in prizes, and what has become of the balance • also the names of the gentlemen of the late and present school committees. You will greatly oblige by doing so. A Constant Reader,
