THE WATERBURY FAT MAN.

Hli Green, of Altoona, Pa., died recently, says the Hartford Ct ; Post. His weight was 440 pounds. He had become so fat that his legs would not support him, and he died from the effects of a fall. Pew men have reached the weight of this man, though 25 years ago there flourished in Connecticut a well-known character, who was considerably heavier at his death than the fat man of Altoona. This was Dr. Brown, known by his advertisements as “ the great scrofula doctor,” and he got up a joint stock company with 25,000d015. capital for* the manufacture of his medicine in Waterbary, where he resided. He was a great story-teller, and would occasionally “ get off his base” through too much stimulation. When in a good feeling condition he frequently entertained people about the office in the Scoville House by shouting from the hall, as he approached the door to the office, “ Don’t be alarmed, gentleman j belly is coming, I shall be in in a fe* minutes.” When roaring tight hd would fairly make the walls ring; but he was so large or there was so much of him, that it took him several days to get brimful. By drinking pretty steadily from Monday morning till the middle of the week, he would be comforted)' ■' intoxicated by about Thursday o.' Friday, and in the meantime he delighted to relate many of his adventure*, which were exceedingly droll. He vva6 by all odds the fattest man ever seen in the State and the funniest, and was generally known in all the large cities. But Waterbary was very proud of him.
