REUTER’S TELEGRAMS.
BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, May 28. Trickett, and Kelly his trainer, have started for New York. News is to hand from Ireland that serious riots have occurred at Mitcheltown, in the County Cork, Twelve thousand (sic) peasants assembled there to oppose the service of writs for the ejectment of some tenants. Upon the police arriving on the scene, fighting of a very severe character took place. After much bloodshed on both sides the
rioters were dispersed, and the evictions of tenants were finally completed. The Irish Land League is daily increasing its agitation throughout the country, and is showing signs that it will oppose any attempt to prohibit its actions.
Paris, May 28. Gambetta made a speech to-dav, in the course of which he counselled a pacific policy, and said that order and peace were a necessity for the wellbeing of France, and should be rigidly maintained.
