REUTER'S TELEGRAMS.

BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, May 17. The Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone is again suffering from indisposition, and has been ordered by his physician to take a rest from his duties in Parliament. Constantinople, May 17. An inquiry has been held into the confession of the four domestics of the Tcheragan Palace—viz., that they were concerned in the murder of Sultan Abdul Aziz, in 187 G. The evidence adduced lias led to the accusation of Midhat Pasha (who was Grand "Vizier at the time of the -Sultan's death) of complicity in the crime; and an Imperial decree has accordingly been issued deposing Midhat Pasha from the position he occupies as Governor of Smyrna, and ordering his immediate arrest. News has, however, since been received from Smyrna to the effect that Midhat Pasha has fled from the city. Later intelligence has been received by the Government from Smyrna that Midhat Pasha has not, as at first stated, fled from the city, but taken refuge in the French Consulate, and has appealed to the French and foreign Consuls for protection from arrest by the Turkish authorities. Owing to the representation made by the Ambassadois of the Powers, the Porte has withdrawn the conditions it placed upon the proposed cession of territory to Greece, and a convention between the Greek and Turkish Governments in final settlement of the frontier difficulty will, it is now understood, be signed without delay. ♦ LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Cooktown, May 19. The steamship Glamis Castle, which has arrived here from Houg Kon», brings 850 Chinese, most of whom are en route for New Zealand. Sydney, May 19. Sailed,—R.M.S. Australia, for San Francisco, via Auckland. The hearing of the suit Moore (lessee of Clontarf Pleasure Grounds) v. proprietors of the Sydney Bulletin, for libel, terminated today.
