KUMARA INSTITUTE LIBRARY.
[tfo tAe Ehmjß.] Sir—May I trouble you with a few lines in reply to “ Anti-Humbug” and “ Shovel” re the Library of the Kumara Literary Institute I I am sorry, in the first place, to hear that ahy inconvenience should have arisen to subscribers regarding it, but the fact is* in lately taking stock of the Library, it was found that twenty-four books were missing or unaccounted for; although I am glad to state that ten of the number have since been returned, Ido admit having the key in my possession one day while stock was taking, and it deeply grieves me to learn that gentlemen from so trivial a cause should be shocked into so high a state of great disgust or wondering astonishment, I desire to state that, outside of the small responsibility admitted, I have nothing Whatever to do with complaints made. If the present rules of the Institute doh’t please town subscribers, let them be altered at once. A committee meeting takes place some day this week, and, if a grievance exists, let it be placed before the committee, to be rectified without delay. 1 have no wish, nor time to spare, to carry on a newspaper correspondence.—-I beg to remain, <kc,, James S&art. Lanikin’s, May 16, 1881.
