KUMARA INSTITUTE LIBRARY.

[to the editor.] Sir—l have been informed by one or two subscribers to the Kumara Literary Institute that on several occasions when they wished to change , a book they found, to their surprise, that all the books were under lock and key • and on one occasion in particular when a subscriber went to change a book, he Could not do so, and upon inquiry found that the key had been taken away by One Of the com-mittee-men. Of course, Mr Editor, it is quite right to look after the interest of the Institute, but I think that the above precaution was rather absurd, as I believe the Institute is there for the convenience of its subscribers. Hoping that I have not trespassed on your Valuable space—l remain, yours, &C., Anti-Humbug. Kumara, May 12, 1881. [to the editor.] Sir—Being a member of the Kumara Literary Institute and desiring to change my book, I applied to Mr Burger-, who I believe has charge of the library for that purpose. To my surprise and disgust I was informed that Mr Burger had received instructions from one Of the committee-men not to change books for anyone at any other time than the hours appointed for the library to be open. Now, Mr Editor, I have been informed by one of the committe'6 of the society that it is the wish of the committee to allow members to change books at any time, provided Mr Burger, who is very obliging, will make the necessary entry in the register. Hoping to hear that Mr Burger’s instructions from the mysterious committee-man have been withdrawn, and apologising for trespassing on your valuable time—l am, Shovel. Kumara, May 13, 1881.
