The Daily Times correspondent at the scene of the wreck telegraphs from Wyndham to-day, that Captain Garrard’s body has been identified, also that of Jones, the purser. It has been necessary to bury the bodies near the scene of the disaster, on an acre to be known as the Tararua’s acre. Three more mail bags have been recovered. Two or three females bodies came ashore, bub were unrecognisable; also, a Chinaman’s. The right hand and arm of a woman also came ashore. On Sunday eleven more bodies were recovered on Waipapa beach, a short distance of where the vessel struck. Amongst them was the body of the
Captain, identified by his brother, and that of R. W. Crawford, by papers found on the body-; and that of Robert Brow*, by a ripg. with a piece of gold quartz ii\ the centre. The body of one female, and that of a Chinaifiafr, and refftainder of European .males are all identified. On Monday fourteen bodies were recovered, amongst them that of Dr. Campbell’s eldest son, identified by his uncle. There are nnindentified two females, one a young girl. The bodies now coming ashore are fearfully mutilated. At the auction 6'f theTararua wreck, one boat, lying on the beach near thewreck was sold to Nltmnon and Blair : for £7 1 Os, one boat at fort ChaliherV was sold to Mr Mills for £ls.
