Christchurch, May 7. Ford and Newton sold at auction, High street, on account of the executors of Sir Cracroft Wilson to-day, the estate, situated in the Malvern district, which contains 1643 acres freehold, 7790 acres leasehold, 7500 sheep, with a house and improvements. The purchaser was Duncan Rutherford, of Leslie Hills; the price £B4OO. Wellington, May 7. A eircular memorandum has been issued by the Government to the various
Education Boards throughout the Colony to the effect that after the 30th prox. capitation grants will not be paid to Boards on account of the attendance of children under five years of a»e. The date of calling Parliament together for the dispatch of business has now been definitely fixed for Thursday, 9th June, and a proclamation to that effect has been issued.
Auckland, May t. Tom Rickards, operatic singer, was bound over to keep the peace to W. H. Fenton, in sureties of £2OO, for six months, and pay costs. George Bennett's house at Waiuku, with out-buildings, stock, and agricultural implements, &c, have been burned. The estimated loss is £2OO, uninsured. The wreck at the Little Barrier proves to be a myth. A careful search was made by the steamer Blanche, without discovering any traces of a wreck. THE TARARUA DISASTER. THIRTEEN MORE BODIES COME ASHORE, Dunedin, May 8. The Otago Daily Times' correspondent telegraphs from Wyndhatn on Saturday that thirteen more bodies have been recovered, and four identified, namely ; John Scoone, Alexander Rae, Wm. White, and Robert Shaw Russell Marsh. One is a body of a man about fifty years of age, five feet high, stout build, light beard mixed with grey, heavy boots with heel and toe plates, dark ceat, light-colored trousers. Ho had a miner's chamois bag. Ten bodies have been interred in Fortress Cemetery. A number of bodies are now coming ashore. It is determined to bury them within an enclosed acre of land near the scene of the disaster.
