The city of Dublin has been proclaimed a prescribed district by the Viceroy of Ireland, under the powers vested in him by the Coercion Act.

It is understood that several important arrests of leading agitators will at once be made in Dublin.

Gladstonehas stated that the demands of the Catholic hierarchy in England for material alterations in the Irish Land Bill cannot be acceded to by the Government. The amendments asked for are considered inadmissible.

Paris, May 2. Telegrams have been received reporting that fighting of a desultory character between the French troops and the Tunisiaus, without material advantage on either side has taken place. The former are continuing to advance on the city of Tunis with all possible speed.
