Adelaide, April 25. A six days’ pedestrian tournament was finished here on Saturday night. Edwards walked the greatest distance, 451 miles; Swan, of New Zealand, coming next with 423 miles. Both men did their distances easily. Sydney, April 25.
The Union Company’s steamship Hero, which left here oti Friday last for New Zealand, took 380 Chinese. The steamer Brisbane, which was quarantined at Cooktown for smallpox, is now on her way here with 350 Chinese.
The miners employed in the Newcastle Colliery have made arrangements for holding a mass meeting for the purpose of considering the question of Chinese immigration and the importance of Chinese labor in coal mines.
