THE EDUCATION RESERVE.
[to the Bmioß-,] SIB.—In view of the public meeting to be held this evening, I think it should be made known that all the sidents upon the Education Reserve are not placed upon the same footing-. For instance, some of the victims have been deluded into taking out leases-, and are the worst persecuted of the lot, payment on the highest scale, being vigorously extracted from the aforesaid Victims’ pockets. Agaiu, those who rent from year to year are charged a much lower rate, and in many instances a clear receipt is given (as I am informed) when one year’s rent is paid, although three are due. Again, there are people, and moneyed men too, who have not paid a single sixpence in rent-, during several years of occupancy. Is. this consistent) oT fair I—l am, sir, yours, &c., Fair PlaV. Knmara, April 21, ISSI, [TO THE EDITOR.] Sir —I trust that the miners will roll up to the meeting to-night, at the Town Hall. We cannot put up quietly with the ne\V Hokitika taxation; we are too much governed, and a determined stand should be made against the outrageous proposals of the Hokitika School Commissioners. Let there be united action, and we may yet see our oppressors laugh on the wrong side of their mouths.—l am, sir, yours, <fec.,
