DEATH OF THE EARL OF BEACONSFIELD. London, April 19. The Earl of Beaconsfield suffered a severe relapse and died to-night. LATEST FOREIGN NEWS. Calcutta, April 18. Intelligence has been received from Candahar that the evacuation of the City by the British garrison has commenced. A report is current, how. ever, that although the troops will be withdrawn from Candahar, several British regiments will permanently occupy Chaman and the Pisheen Valley. A force despatched by the Ameer to Candahar has arrived there, and the Governor appointed by him was installed to day. AfHENS, April 16. A large meeting of . the people took place here to-day in consequence of the action of the Government in accepting the proposals lately made by the Porte for the settlement of the frontier question. The matter was discussed in excited language, and speeches were made denouncing the policy of the Government. The agitation is increasing throughout the country. LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, April 18. Arrived —P. and O, Company’s steamship Rosetta, with the inward Suez mail, dated London, March 11. Sydney, April 19. The following are the probable starters lor the Sydney Cup to be run for tomorrow:—Wellington, Progress, Woodlands, Black Swan, Falmouth, The Pontiff, Strathearn, Richmond, Braidwood, Barber, Canary, Orient, Wandering Jew, Major, Cynic, Templar, Gunild. Per Majesty’s schooners Alacrity, Beagle, and Conflict, have left this port under sealed orders. It is believed they are proceeding to the Islands.
