Once more we are requested to remind those persons who have not yet filled up their census papers that it is imperatively

necessary they should do so at once ; and in the event of their habits being of not too homely a character, that they will leave their census papers, when filled-up, at some store near at hand where the subenumerators can obtain them. Both the Christchurch coaches arrived town this afternoon at the usual due time. To-night, at the Theatre Royal, the Original Georgia Minstrels announce that they Will have the honor of appearing in a choice entertainment, which is to comprise one of the grandest bills of the season, They are to be assisted by some of the leading local talent of this district, but the nameß of flosea Easton and Billy Wilson are sufficiently well known to be a guarantee that there will be lots of amusement and laughter. In another column we publish a report of the rifle match between Kumara and Hokitika, which seems now to have become an annual affair. This morning's West Coast Times informs that when re-* turning home last evening some excitement was occasioned owing to the eccentric driving of one of the Hokitika team " who is certainly not at home on the box of a coach. Fervent thanks were offered on safe arrival in Hokitika by the team after a somewhat perilous journey, marked by one narrow escape from an accident." A complimentary benefit will, on Wednesday next, be tendered to Messrs Marshall and Smythe, (late of the Court Minstrels) by Kumara amateurs. The entertainment is to be of a varied character, and is announced to be under the patronage of his Worship the Mayor and the Councillors of the Borough of Kumara, so that a thoroughly legitimate and genuine performance may be looked for. We are desired, in consequence of a prevalence of rumors in the matter, to state that the Court Minstrels and the Geofgias are two distinct companies, and that Messrs Marshall and Smythe are not attt* ing in any way for or with the last' named. We have before referred to the accident to Mr Smythe, and on this account public sympathy under severe trial and trouble has been aroused, and we hope will be manifested in substantial form on Wednesday night. The following works were, at a meeting of the Grey County Council on Wednesday last, agreed to be constructed :—Foot track from Try-Again Terrace to German Gully; track from Greenstone to ThreeMile ; and tenders to be culled for repairs and maiutainence, for twelve months, of track Maori Creek to Maori Gully, via German Gully, At the meeting of the County Council of Westland, at Hokitika, on Wednesday last, a communication was read from Mr E. Blake, as chairman, forwarding the resignations of the members of the Arahura Road Board, and "trusting that their backslidings would be forgiven now that they were dead." The letter was received. The Town Clerk of Kumara forwarded to the same meeting a letter from Mr Anderson, pointing out the necessity for an Inspector of Weights and Measures in the County of Westland, which letter was referred to the Chairman to report upon. Mr James Kirk, late toll collector, was appointed sub-inspector of erection of Kapitea Creek bridge. And it was also agreed that a wire bridge be erected across the Kapitea Creek, at the Chesterfield Track ; plans and specifications to be prepared at once, and tenders invited by next meeting. It was also resolved " That under no circumstances shall tenders be called for works until copies of the plans and specifications for such works are in the County office, available for public inspection." To-night and Monday will be the last nights on which sweeps will be drawn for tickets in Mr Gilbert Stewart's consultation on the Sydney Gold Cup, as the race and the drawing take place on Monday next. For list of prizes in a grand art-union at Hokitika see fourth page.—[Advx.] To those in search of merriment, visit S. S. Pollock's, and obtain the great Irish song "The Babies in our Block," or "Little Sally Waters"; price sixpence. [Advt.]
