BOYCOTTING HOKITIKA.
[id tSb editor.] Sir —l observe with satisfaction that a correspondent of your paper proposes to “ Boycott ” Hokitika until justice* or something approaching it* is dealt out to the inhabitants of Euraara. Hokitika and the few persons in it would look remarkably small, if .the proposal is carried out. Irish landlordism is not a bit worse than -the cruel treatment we receive at the hands of Hokitika. We are kept in a state of serfdom, and are almost hopeless of redress. Already a small band of business men, independent in principle and in pocket, have arrived at the conclusion that they will, as proposed by your correspondent, “ cut the painter,” and have neither act nor part with Hokitika until such time as justice is done us. Our very life’s blood is being drained by the Hokitika Shylocks; and this will be continued to be done until a firm stand is made against it 7 The remedy is in our own hands and let us try how our enemies will like Boycotting.—l am sir, yours obediently, Rory O’More. ‘ Eumara, April 14, 1881.
