THE COMEDY AND BURLESQUE COMPANY.
This Company gave their third performance at Anderson’s Theatre on Saturday night to a splendid house. The pieces chosen were well selected for a Saturday night audience and seemed to give universal satisfaction. The first was the historical Scottish drania “Cramond Brig,” or “ The guid man o’ Ballangeich.” Space will not allow us to enter fully into a description of the plot* which is simple and yet very interesting. The principal characters of James the Fifth of Scotland, Jock Howieaon (an honest farmer) and his wife Tibbie were well enacted; Mr Love, as the good king, Was forcibly emphatic in his scorn for a noble who could stoop to actions niean and base; Mr Mack D. Alexander* of course, was in his element as Jock Howieson, his natural manner and speech giving him opportunity of which he was not slow to take advantage, and proving himself in parts like this a good character actor. As his wife Tibbie, Mr Herbert scored a success ; make up, facial expression* dialect—all were a study, and deservedly won the approbation of the audience. The minor parts were all well and carefully played, thus adding to the general excellence of the performance. A musical melange followed, in which Messrs Jaa. Wilkinson, Alexander, and Love, and Miss Amy Johns took part. “ Encore !” was the c; y of the evening, and all cordially responded. The wellknown “ O’Callaghan on his last legs” concluded a capital night’s entertainment. Mr Herbert showed his versatility by a really grand performance of the never non-plnssed Irish gentleman ; he was well supported by Miss Lizzie Lawrence, Miss Johns, and the gentlemen of the company. To-night, the last night but one of this company, they will produce the fdur-adt Comedydrama “Worth a Struggle,” in which the full strength of the company Will be employed. “A Christmas at Home” will be introduced in the .second act, in which Miss Lizzie Morgan will sing two of her favorite ballads; Miss Johns, Messrs Jas. Wilkinson, Love, Alexander, and Herbert will also contribute. This being the last night really for the Company, as they give the Hospital a bespeak to-morrow night, we hope, as they deserve, to see a crowded house “Deservesuccess, and you will command it!” is the motto of this company. They do deserve it; let them not be disappointed.
