[The Editor does not; necessarily; adopt the opihioiis expressed by corre : Spondents.] BOROUGH RETRENCHMENT: [to the editor. \ Slit—l see by last nightls Issud d letter frond *• Ratepayer ” imputing “ assassin like conduct to Cr. Simmons; simply because he made Several Very serious charges against the Town Clerk, Valuator; &c. Those charged, it seems; db not Suit the friends; (“ Ratepayer ” being one) of the T.G:j cfec., to have investigated, as they would gladly see. him get the whole revenue of the Borough, for their otfn sakes; When Cr. Simmons made the charges; he did it Openly and manly td the Council and Town Clerk ; and it is not his fault if he has not the chance of proving them. Those charges were made in the interests of the ratepayers—not his own. “ Ratepayer;” in my opinion, acts a more “ assassin ” - like part in making a charge of ness against Cr. Simmons from behind an assassin’s bush—a cowardly nom de plume,—Yours respectfully, Wm. Finlayson. Euraara, April 8, 1878.
