BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A .meeting of the Committee of the whole Council waa held at the Town Hall last evening. Prior to the commencing of business the Council decided that the proceed- 1 ings should be opened to the public, and the door waa then opened. Seddon moved and Cr; Pearn seconded—* 4 That in thb opinion of this. : Committee the administrative expenses of the Council having been cut down to 1 4 a minimum/ the only way bif satis* factorily carrying on business would be to see that each servant of the’ Council perform their duties satisfactorily, and that strict economy be practised in connection with public works.’* _ After a short and somewhat acrimonious debate, a division was taken, with the following result Ayes : Councillors Seddon, Galland, Campbell, Pollock, Pearn. Noes: Councillors Barnett, Simmons, Horne, O’Hagan. The motion was, therefore, carried. It was moved by the Chairman, seconded by Cr. Pearn—“ That should the Committee consider that the Borough funds will not bear present adminstratives expenses; that the Council be recommended to pass a resolution and forward a memorial to his Excellency praying him to dissolve the Borough.” Cr. O’Hagan asked the Chairman whether the motion waa in order, seeing the Committee had only the question of retrenchment referred to it; and the resolution now put was to dissolve the Borongh. ' f The Chairman held the point raised to be good, and ruled against himself. - The meeting then terminated.
