He was found dead in a tail-race last evening, and it is supposed that he was killed on Saturday evening. The deceased was highly respected, and his death is much lamented. Wellington, April 4. As nothing would be gained by her coming direct from Taranaki, when she cannot leave Manukau till tomorrow, she will call at Nelson, as usual, and is expected here by noon on Thursday, when she will immediately proceed South with the mail. Nelson, April 4. By telegram from Totaranui, Golden Bay, it appears that Mr Gibbs, M.H.R., fell from a scaffold, slightly injuring his spine, but the injury is not believed to be serious. ARRIVAL OF THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL AT AUCKLAND. Auckland, April 4. The Australia arrived at 3.30 p.tn. She left Honolulu on 21st March. The City of Sydney had not arrived. On passage the Australia kept a man on the look-out at the mast head, but saw no sign of the missing steamer. She sighted the Zealandia on 3rd March. Passengers for Auckland—Wm, Hewitt, W. D. Carter, Miss L. R, Casey, Captain F. R. Webb, S. P. Starr and ten steerage. The Australia leaves for Sydney at daylight.
