BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, March 29. In the action brought by Mr Levy Lawson, proprietor of the Daily Telegraph, against Mr Labouchere, M.P. for Northampton, and proprietor of Truth, for libel, the jury were unable to agree, and were discharged without returning a verdict. March 30. The Right Hon. Earl Beaconsfield is at the present time suffering from a severe attack of gout and asthma. A bulletin, issued to-day, stated that his Lordship passed a restless night. Capetown, March 28. News has been received from Basutoland announcing that the Basutos have made a raid through the Boteka district, and have captured a large number of cattle and horses from the settlers. Telegrams have come to hand to-day from the Transvaal, bringing news that the British garrison at Potchefstroom, which had been besieged by the Boers since the outbreak, yielded to the enemy on the day on which the treaty of peace between Sir Evelyn Wood, on behalf of the British, and the Boer leaders was signed. Before the garrison surrendered, however, desperate fighting, lasting several hours, took place, and the British suffered a loss of 18 killed and fully 90 wounded. The loss of the Boera is not stated. Athens, March 29. A Greek army corps has been ordered to the front, in view of the possibility of war with Turkey. ♦ LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, March 29. In the Legislative Council this evening a motion was introduced by the Hon. Mr Read, a Government supporter, disagreeing with the President's ruling in regaid to the Reform Bill; and it was negatived after debate. It has transpired, howeve, that, at the caucus of members of the Council, it
was agreed to waive the technical "rounds of objection to the reception b£ the Reform Bill from the and to proceed with the consideration of that measure on its merits. March 30. The Legislative Council will, discuss a mation to be introduced by* Mr Cuthbert in favor of the Reform Bill being read a first time under test. Albany, March 28. Arrived—P. and O.
