ASSASSINATION OF THE CZAR OF RUSSIA. BRITISH AND FOREIGN. St. Petersburg, March 13. The Czar of Russia was murdered today by the explosion of a bomb. The following ate the particulars :—Accompanied by his suite he was witnessing a parade of troops in the city to-day, when a bomb was suddenly thrown from among the spectators, and fell close to where he was standing. It exploded, but did no harm to his Majesty. A second bomb was almost simultaneously thrown, and this shattered his legs and otherwise mortally wounded him. He was at once conveyed to a house near at hand, but his Majesty died within two hours from losa of blood, though every effort was made by the doctors, who were at once in attendance, to stop the flow. Great consternation was caused on the parade ground when the booms were thrown, and when the effect of their explosion was seen, several persons, including some members of the Czar's suite, were killed, and many olhers severely wounded. The assassin was arrested at the scene of the outrage before he had time to escape. At the wool sales to-day 13,700 bales were offered. There was again a good demand. In the House of Commons to-day the Irish Arms Bills was read a third tjme and passed, and transmitted to the House of Lords for consideration. It is announced that England will pay five millions sterling to the Indian Government as its share of the cost of the last Afghan war. March 12. In the House of Commons to-day the Right Hou.W. E. Gladstone made a statement regarding the position of affairs in the Transvaal. He announced that, with a view to bring about a complete cessation of hostilities and permanent settlement of the difficulty, peace commisssoners would be appointed in the Transvaal to undertake negotiations with the Boers. Capetown, March 12. News to hand from the Orange Free State announces that the population is at the present time excited over the state of affairs in the Transvaal. Calcutta, March 11. Intelligence has been received from Afghanistan that the army corps, which was despatched by the Ameer, Abdul [lbinin, to Ghuznee last month, as a precautionary measure against any movement on the part of Ayoub Khan will now be disbanded, as the force is no longer required. +—: LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Sydney, March 14. The schooner Leslie has arrived from the Solomon Islands, and reports that the master was murdered there by the natives, and that a rumor was current when she left that Captain Laurie, of the schooner Black Hawk, had also been murdered. News from the Mount Brown di<*. gings states that the water there is exhausted, and the population has shifted six miles. One man perished from exhaustion while proceeding to the field, and it is feared that great loss of life will take place unless rain falls. Mr William Firth, the late AgentGeneral for New South Wales,in London, returned here to-day, per P. and 0. Company's Bteamer Bokhara. He met with a warm reception, and was presented by a Committee with a congratulatory address. Melbourne, March 14. Official declaration of awards will be made on 22nd inst. The d,.y will be a public holiday. There will be a parade of troops, and the whole proceedings will be of a formal character.
