REUTER'S TELEGRAMS.
THE TRANSVAAL DISASTER, Capetown, February 28. Further telegrams to hand from Natal fully confirm the previous announcement of the disaster to the British troops in the Transvaal. The fighting at Spitskof (not Opotokiwok, as stated in the first telegram) was of a most sanguinary character, and lasted for fully seven hours. The British resisted the attack of the Boers until their ammunition was exhausted, and the small force which was then left was then compelled to retreat. The enemy f .llowed in pursuit for some distance, but were checked by the guns from the camp at Mount Prospect, where the stragglers from the defeated force are now arriving safely. + LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, March 2. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have purchased a site in Collins street for an extensive warehouse at a cost of £27,000. It is announced that Government intend to try Raymond's phosphor-sed oats, in their endeavors to exterminate the rabbit pest. Sydney, March 1. Intelligence from Temora states that a number of miners are leaving there for the Mount Poole diggings, in the Grey Ranges. The rush is in no way justified in the absence of definite information regarding the latter.
