' hot be serious j but as the qualities of both of the pro? ducts are in many cases directly: opposed to oUe another, we cOrisidet it oUr duty to direct the public attention to the following facts The eucalyptus oil is recorded to bb of value as a medicament in cases of rheumatism of secondary nature, and manifests a drawings blistering effect upon the skin; Any blistering brought on by the application of a medicament must increase inflammation; and it is therefore evident that in cases of woUnds, colds; bronchitis, diptheria, Croup, sprains', &c., the curative power bf oUr extract on the named diseases being Unquestionably proved by former publications in this paper, an application of the oil instead of oUr extract must impair the diseased. The truth of bur assertion is foUndei upon the fact that the oil is a resinous product, equivalent to common turpentine, its market ValUe being about three shillings one pound weight. Our ex-? tract consists of the evaporating particles of,the gum leaves, soothing and healing in its effects; its price being twenty-four shillings for one pound weight. The wife of Mr Fickel suffered in the bend of the knee from a swelling which had formed a lump of consider* able size, disabling her from attending to any work. She removed the swell* ing completely by a continued application of the extract. The Donald Times, of Ist December, ■ 1877, states:—Last week the eldest boy of Mr Morgan awoke in the night crying with earache.
