There was a sitting of the Warden’s Court this morning, the report of which is held over., The death-knell of the Arahura Road Board was sounded yesterday at Stafford Town, much to the satisfaction of a large number of the ratepayers and the Board unanimously. A full report of the proceedings appears in another column. After the ordinary parade of the local Rifle Contingent last evening, it was resolved to again petition Government to form the Contingent into a distinct company and for this purpose it was agreed that a petition to this effect should be left at Mr Spiers, bookseller, Main street, for signature by those favorable to the object in view. The adjourned meeting for the election of the Greymoutli School Committee, took place at the Public Hall, Greymoutli, on Monday evening. The result was announced as follows: —Yarrell, 652; Petrie, 424; Hamilton, 292 ; Bartowvnan, ? 260; Lord, 259 ; Morice, 207 ; Ferotti, 156 Barkley, 149; Perkins, 118; Warner, 105 ; M‘Dowall, 98. The first seven were declared elected. There were 391 pei'sons who voted, and 3 were declared informal. Messrs Petrie, Hamilton, Lord, Yarrall and Barrowman having briefly returned thanks, the meeting broke up. The struggle in Parliament over the Canada Pacific railroad contract still continues, and the Opposition have been so bitter that a syndicate of foreign capitalists have been obliged to somewhat modify their original plan, but the essential details as to price are the same as heretofore telegraphed. The Toronto Globe of the 17th says : —“ Since the formation of the new syndicate 10,000,000 dollars have been subscribed in England for the Canadian Pacific railroad, and it is now certain that the whole amount of the capital for the construction of the road can be obtained.
