THE SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD. HANLAN DEFEATS LAYCOCK. London, February 14. Hanlan won the boat race, beating Laycock easily. BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, February 12. The police have received information which leads to the belief that a Feuian plot is afloat to blow up Windsor Castle, and the return of Her Majesty to Windsor is consequently delayed. In the House of Commons, "to-day, Mr Childers, replying to a question, said that the Government had recently made an offer to Kir George Colley of further strong reinforcements for service against the Boers, and the offer had been accepted. Fresh bodies of troops would accordingly be despatched to Natal without delay. The marriage of the Baroness Bur-dett-Coutts with Mr Ashmed Bartlett took place to-day. Capetown, February 12. Latest intelligence from Natal announces that detachments of recently arrived reiuforcements are rapidly proceeding from Durban to Transvaal. The advanced guard has already sighted bodies of Boers to the southward of Newcastle in Natal, and skirmishes have taken place. The enemy is expected to offer a strong opposition to the advance of the British troops. j
LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, February 14. . News has been received of the death of Colonel Charles Whybrow Ligar, formerly commandant of the New Zealand Militia, aged 72. Sydney, February 14. Arrived—Pacific Mail Qo.'s steamer Zealandia aud Union Co.'s Arawata, from Auckland. Brisbane, February 14. Tenders have been opened for the construction of a railway between Emerald and Capilla, in the north of this Colony. The lowest is at the rate of £IO9O per mile.
