Christchurch, February 7. A house in Sydenham was burned this morning. It was insured in the Sun Office for £l5O.

On June 4fcfa last, the son of Dr Rouse, of Lyttelton, in getting off a tram car fell, and had his leg broken by a carriage wheel. The case was brought in the District Court, to-dav, by the father suing the company for £2OO damages. The evidence for plaintiff swore that the guard told the boy to jump off while the train was still in motion. The guard denied this, and the engine driver’s evidence as to the train stopping was contradicted point blank. Jndgment was given for plaintiff for .£IOO. Dr Rouse said the lad was laid up for three months, and had never recovered his memory perfectly. Invercargill, February 6. A large two storey detached wooden building in Tay street, belonging to Lockhart, was destroyed by fire on Saturday. The immediate cause of the conflagration was the boiling over of an inflammable composition, melting on the fire. The building was occupied by Thomas, furniture dealer, and Cooper, jeweller. All interested were well in,' sured in the following offices :—New

Zealand, £4OO on building; Victoria, £3OO on stock of Thomas’s most of which was, however, saved; Standard and National, £IOO each, on Cooper’s tools and furniture.

AUSTRALIANS V. WELLINGTON. Wellington, February 7. The cricket match was resumed today. The Australians continued their innings, and at 4 o’clock all were disposed of for a total of 171 runs, Slight being the highest scorer with 40, Jarvis 34, Spoffurth 32, Alexander 28. Wellington then commenced its second innings, and when time was called had scored 56 for the loss of 15 wickets. Blacklock played a pretty innings for 26. The Wellington men have to make 33 runs to save a one innings defeat. His Excellency visited the ground during the afternoon.
