BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Borough Council was held, at the Town Hall on Thursday evening ■ present— His Worship the Mayor (J. O’Hagan, Esq.) in the chair, and Councillors Pearn, Horae, Seddon, Barnett, Sim* monsj and Galland.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and Confirmed.

The outward correspondence Was read and approved-of, and the inward read and received.

The request of the School Committee, asking for the use of the Town Hall for their meetings, was granted. The remission of rates on the Manse, asked for the Presbyterian Church Committee was also granted. Leave was granted to Cr. Seddon for absence from last meeting. In reply to a letter from Mr Finlayson relative to the Valuation List the Town Clerk was instructed to inform the complainant that the Council, while sympathising with him, must refer him to the Assessment Court.

It was decided, on the request of Mr Rudkin, to make a footpath in front of his property, and also metal one chain of Seddon street below the fire-bell tower.

A committee, consisting of the Mayor, and Councillors Pearn and Seddon, was appointed to examine the valuation list, and report to the Council at an adjourned meeting at 3 p.ra. on Saturday. The report of the Public Works com* mitte recommending that Mr Brady be required to remove the fence lately erected by him on the South Town Belt was adopted.

The report of the Borough Surveyor re Seddon street was read and adopted;

and it was resolved that a committed, consisting of the Mayor, and Councillors Seddon, Horne, add Sirtirao* be empowered., to See "that any cessaiy work be rtndeVtaken in connection with the tnotion of Cr. Simmons, carried at the last meeting '; the amount not to exceed £SO. Oiv the report of the Inspector of dance houses being read, it was resolved that the whole subject of dancing in hotels be submitted to the Minister of Justice and the Silpbrlntendatit of Police.

It was agreed to call for tenders for draining the Recreation Ground. The Council then adjourned.
