Sydney, February 3. Two men have been arrested at Canalbong, charged with the murder of James Omak, in 1876.
Melbourne, February 3. The following further Exhibition awards are published.-—second prizes— Chamber of Commerce, Oamaru, for photographs of Oamaru ; N. K. Cherrill, -(Chvihtcluirch), Clifford and Morris, Dunedin, J, and J, Taylor, Motueka, Nelson, for photographs; third prizes—j. Bragg, Wellington, W. B. Gibbs, Wellington, and Bmnton, Dunedin, for photographs. The following further Exhibition awards have been announced-:—First prize, C. A. Talmei’, Waimea West, Nelson, for hops Second prize—H. Cudden, of Christchurch, for malt) Thomas Harley, of Nelson, for hops and malt; P. Manning and Co., of Christchurch, for malt and barley; Ward and Co., Christchurch, for malt. Third prizes—W. Cudden, of Christchurch, for malt; D. Cunningham and Co., of Christchurch, for map..
A railway between Gerogery and Albany, New South Wales was opened, to-day, and the communication between Melbourne and Sydney is now completed. The opening ceremony was performed by the Hon. John Luckey, the New South Wales Minister for Public Works, who formally declared the line open, and delivered a congratulatory address, in the course of which he expatiated upon the benefit to be derived by the completion of communication between Melbourne and Sydney. The Hon. Graham Berry, Hon. J. B. Paterson, Sir Henry Parkes, and Sir Patrick Jennings were present, together with an assemblage of fully 2000 persons. The whole of the proceedings passed off with eclat, and Were followed by a luncheon. x \. grand ball and supper to-night will conclude the festivities.
