BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, Pebruary 1. Consols unchanged at 99^. New Zealand securities remain at hit quotations, viz., Five Per Cent. 1889 Loan, 107|; Four and a-half Per Cent., 1879-1904 Loan, 99 \. The House of Commons has been sitting for 'the last 24 hours on the Irish Coercion Bill. There have been continuous motions for adjournment by the Irish luemberg, but all have been, negatived. Scandalous scenes have occurred, ami Violent language has beefo used by the obstructors. The Speaker has frequently warned them that theit action was verging on wilful obstruction, which cfluld be punished by the House. The Hon. John Bright made a speech, in the course of which he characterised the -conduct of the Irish members as a gross insult to the House and Government, and stated that the latter would shortly apply -a remedy; for such obstruction as Was being pursued. The debate still proceeds. February 2. The steamship Norfolk left Plymouth yesterday for Lyttelton.* At 10 a.m. to-day, owing to the scandalous scenes which continued to occur in the House, the Speaker put a stop to the debate. Great disturbance therefrom ensned, and did not cease until the Irish members left the House in a body. There being still a quorum present, the Coercion Bill was then read a-first time, (sic) and the second teading will be-taken at noon to-day. LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS.
