[new ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, February 2. An accident occurred at Waikarie Bridge this morning by which one man was killed, and two seriously injured. The scaffolding on which the men were standing gave way through a flaw in one of the supports, precipitating the men 30 feet. Johnston, who was killed-, leaves a wife and three children. The other two injured are Walker and Griggs, the former sustained a severe scalp wound, and Griggs a fracture of thigh and ankle. Nelson, February 2. , ' Dunedin, February 2. The fire at Opoho this morning destroyed three cottages belonging to Harland, Greenfield, and Colomore. The two latter are uninsured. Harland’s was covered by insurance in Victoria.
A fatal accident occurred at Guthrie and Larnach’s factory, this afternoon. Thomas Jeffrey, a young man, got entangled in one of the belts, and death was instantaneous, his brains being dashed out, and one leg lorn from his body.
Auckland, February 2. Prospects of a payable goldfields in the Waitakua district, near the Manakau Heads, have been found. Mr and Mrs Lingard left by mail steamer. The bankruptcy matters have been arranged, and they will not apply for discharge. The case lapsed.
