January 21. News has been received from South America that the Chilians occupied the Peruvian capital, Lima. On Monday fast two sanguinary battles were fought between the two forces, and it is said that 7000 Peruvians were killed. The Chilian loss is - not. stated! - Owing to the defeat of his. troops and the occupying of the capital, Pierola, President of Peru, has fled.
January 22. The trial of the Land Leaguers at Dublin still proceeds, The case for the defence of the -defendants had closed, and the Judges summing up will now be gone on with. The debate on the Address in Reply was resumed iu the House of Commons towlay, and other amendments proposed by Iri'h members tVere rejected by over whelming majorities/ The Address was finally carried by an almost imam mods vote of the House.
