Melbourne, January 16. The Intercolonial Yachting Regatta, held yesterday in Port Phillip, passed off successfully. There was a large attendance on tho flagship, and the

weather was fine with a good breeze. The Grand Challenge Race was over a 45 mile course, and was won as already telegraphed, by the Janet, which came in a miuute ahead of the Taniwha, followed by the Secret, which took second place on her time allowance. All the yachts sailed well, and the j finish of the race was very exciting. The third class match was won by the Zephyr. January 17. Obituary—Mr A. K. Smith, M.L.A. A two days' walking match takes place between Baker and Swan on Friday and Saturday next. Sydney, January 14. The Intercolonial Conference met today, and approved of the iesolutions carried at the Melbourne sittings on the subject of intercolonial legislation, viz. :—l. That warrants for the arrest of offenders issued in one colony should be good in all, and that provision should be made for anticipating by telegram the effect of such warrants, and that all processes for recovery of debts or damages originating in any one colony should have full effect in all colonies. 3. That all warrants for the apprehension of men who have deserted their wives or children, or both, should have force and effect in all colonies. The Conference also agreed to consider a bill drafted by Mr Vale, the Victorian Attorney-General, and representative at Conference, for the establishment of an Australian Court of final appeal.

January 17. The Intercolonial Conference met today and considered the bill for the establishment of an Australian Court of Appeal drafted by Mr Vale, the Victorian Attorney-General, and colleague of Mr Berry at the Conference. After discussion it was decided to refer the bill to a committee for revision before further considering it.
