Daring a gale cm the 24th December, two men were drowned, the quarter boat lost, and the stanchion rail broken. The ship's bell Was washed away, and the tnird mate was saved, through being caught by the hatchway. The City of New Yorksails for Sydney at 8 p.m.

There are rumored changes in the diplomatic service—Sir Edward Thompson to St. Petersburgh, and Francis Clare to Washington. The Royal Geographical Society is considering the plan of a new Artie expedition by way of Joseph Land. The wheat crop of South America is splendid. Owiug to political ti-ouble in Ireland, many of the farmers who formerly were comfortable are now in poverty. The Princess of Wales had a narrow escape from death while following the hounds. Her horse shied, and she was saved by Viscount Proby. The Rev. S. Dale, and E.Wright, naturalists, have been released from gaol eft condition that they are not to do anything contrary to Lord Penzance's monitions. The Irish Land League has ordered large landhoktera to put new men ou to improve their property. Earl Sligo is the only member who obeyed the League. The Chief Justice of the Queers ißench, Dublin,, denounced Irish anarchy in unmeasured terms. He has since received a threatening letter. One Nangle got twenty years for shooting a landlord At Tyrone. Bailiff Melvoland was shot by leaguers at Grasam, near Clonmell, who were arrested. Baron Douse, of, the Connaught Assizes, has received a letter threatening his death. The Land Leaguers oil December 16th, issued an address condemning the outrages. Parnell got a letter threaten ing his death if ho attended a certain meeting. The troops in Dublin are ordered to be in readiness for active service. The Scots Guards, 1000 strong, are ordered from Gibraltar to Cork. The Land League manifesto announces that a special meeting will be held to discuss the promised Land Bill/ and pronounce on its worth.
