[Australian papers.] Constantinople, January 2. The announcement already made that the Porte refused to submit the Greek frontier question to tbe arbitra tion of the Greek Powers, has been fully confirmed. Fresh proposals are made by the Turkish Government for settlement of the Greek frontier difficulty, to the effect that a conference of representatives of all the Great Powers be held here at an early date * that the Greek Government be invited to send delegates ; and that the Conference be empowered to finally settle the question; January 3. The general belief is prevalent that Ally attempt made by the European Powers to bring abdnt an understanding between the Turkish and Greek Governments Will fail; January 4. Active interchange bf communications is going on between the European Powers on the subject of the unsettled claims of Greece, and the difficulties raised by Turkey regarding the frontier* It is understood the Powers arfe urging on Greece and Turkey the desirableness of jointly agreeing to refer the inisettled question to the arbitration of European Powers, as proposed a short time since by tiie British Government. No support is at present given to theJTurkisii proposal for another Conference. Durban, January 4. The rebellion of the Boers is daily acquiring increased importance in view of the fact that the colonial troops in the Transvaal are unable to undertake active operations against them, pending the arrival of reinforcements now en S’oUte for this place. The rebels have assented offensive Operations and despatched all their available forces south. The recent interruption of communicacation is attributed to their having advanced, and they have to-day entered the province of Natal ahd taken op a position on the direct route to Transvaal. Tbe object of this move is to intercept and oppose the advance of the troops left here, and prevent their affecting junction with the garrisons At St. Anderson’s and Wat’iterstroon. London, January 5. In consequence of the serious character of the news to hand daily from the Transvaal, orders have been sent by the Home Government to India for the despatch of a further contingent of troops, which will leave for Natal with the least possible delay.
