BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, January 6. News comes to hand to-day of fui-theK serious disturbances in Ireland. A large crowd of people had assembled at a farm at Newbrook, Claremorris, in order to prevent the service of the notice for the evictment of the tenant. A body of police was despatched to the scene of the disturbance, and the people were ordered to disperse; upon their refusing to do so, the police charged with fixed bayonets upon the rioters, several of whom were severt ly wounded in the struggle which ensued. An official denial has been given to the report circulated yesterday that a torpedo had been found under the bow of H.M.S. Lord Warden, in the Firfch of Forth. A fire broke out at the Liverpool docks to-day, but was extinguished before any damage was done. It has since been discovered that the fire was caused by an incendiary, who had used petroleum, with the evident intention of completely destroying the docks. Capetown, January 4. News has been received from Durban that a considerable body of Boers entered Natal from Transvaal, and marched some distance across the border. They came upon a detachment of British troops, and opposed its advance towards Transvaal. It is not known whether any fighting occurred. Bombay, January 4. The military authorities have received orders to despatch further reinforcements of Indian troops to Natal. _-— -+. LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, January 6. The footballers here are organising a team to leave for England in May. It will include five New Zealande.-s. Albany, January 6. The P. and O. Company's steamer Hydaspes, from Galle, with the inward Suez mail, dated London, 3rd December, arrived at King George's Sound to-day.
