KUMARA BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the Committee of this Society was held yesterday afternoon ; present—His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), the Revs. Messrs Hall, West, and Scott, Sergeant Emmerson, and Messrs Brown and Duggan. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary reported that on behalf of the society he had paid half the fare of the late Mrs Mulligan's children to Nelson, the Hokitika society paying the other half. It was resolved thai the Secretary's action be approved of. The Secretary read the report of the sub-committee for the month of December. The report showed that aid to the extent of £22 2s had been distributed. This included £l3 which had been handed to certain sufferers bv the late fire. The subcommittee had" also guaranteed the sum of £2O to another sufferer. After considerable discussion, the re report was adopted. Accounts amounting to £9 16s 6d were passed for payment.

The Secretaiy reported having received to the credit of the society, during the month, the sum of £37 10s, made up as follows : Seddon street ... £l6 11 0 Main street 5 15 0 Larrikins 0 10 0 Dunedin Flat ... 2 <£ 0 Borough Council ... 12 10 0

The account at the Bank showed a credit balance of £33 4s 2d, and the claim on the Government for the quarter's subsidy would be £3B 17s 6d. Sergeant Emmerson reported a ease of serious illness in Seddon street, in which the sufferer had beeu refused admission to the Hospital. Resolved : "That the society cannot entertain Mrs \s case, as it clearly belongs to the Flospital Committee. The Secretary reported that, as instructed at the last Committee meeting, the Rev. Father MCaughey and himself had visited the Lead with the view to extending the society's operations to that part of the district. Their views had met with a very favorable reception, and the following collectors had been appointed :—ln L-irrikiu's, Messrs M'Glone and Whinerey ; for Dillman's Town, W. Carew ; for Dunedin Flat, Messrs Harris and Stewart. Rosolved : " That the Secretary's report be received."

The Sub. Committee's period of office having expired, it was resolved that the former members should be reappointed. It was resolved that the Rev. Father Devoy should be asked to fill the various offices which will shortly be vacated by the Rev. Father M'Caughey. The meeting then adjourned.
