Government will shortly introduce a resolution for permitting members of the House of Commons to make an affirmation instead of taking the customary oath. It recommends an extension of the franchise for the Council by enlarging the ratepayers' roll; and, further, that the members of the Council should be elected for six years, one-third retiring every two year ; and that the total number of electorates should be thirty, each returning one member.
