BRITISH AND FOREIGN. Lbxnox, Jane 14. The Merchant Shipping and Underwriter's Association reports :—Arrived—Hereford, from Lyttelton, March 24; Maraval, from Lyttelton, March 29. June 14. Confirmatory information has been received that the Indian Government has offered the Ameership of Afghanistan to Abdul Rahnuui, whose reply is awaited. It is said that Abdul Rahman hesitates, in consequence of the compulsory retirement of hostile tribes. Should Abdul Rahman decline -tlip Ameership, it is possible it may be offered to Takoob Khan. It is now announced that Col. Gordon, R.E. (Chinese Gordon), who has left for China, has been invited by the Chinese Government in view of the difficulties with Russia. There is considerable agitation in Turkestan, and the Russians are reported to be marching into' Kashgar.
