THE COMING GIAN T.
Much interest, has. been eXcjjes, in Brooklyn* New York, % a young giant,'by name Jack Shields, who l has* lately been engaged for exhibition at a museum-in.that place. Shields, who is a Texas boy, eighteen years old, is at present little more than 7ft. in . height, but he is in training fo.be the “giant of the future,” and it is expected, that he will beat any giant ever yet exhibited. He comes of a family of gigantic proportions. His father, » farmer in Texas, is 7ft. high, and his brother* and sisters are or like proportions, but they have done growing. An agent who was scouring , the country in search of giants came upon the Shields family, and at once saw thafhe had found a treasure iu Jack, whose services he secured with some difficulty. The agent set. forth the other day, to 1 a reporter of One! of the New York papers the difficulties attendant, on “licking a giant into shape,” as illustraied by Shields. “We are, M . he said, “ training him to be a giant, ahd we think that he will grow to be the tallest man in the business. He needs watching. Having been accustomedall his life to lower himself to talk to his companions, and to allow his arms to hang loosely by his side, spread out his legs, He is yet raw’ and awkward for the giant business; but now he is getting to hold his beach up, and keep his feet together,, and throw his shoulders back, to keep himself in shape, to take. ; flesh and get', more height.”
